Position Summary:

Under direction of the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance supervisor is responsible for the overall safe maintenance, repair or replacement of plant equipment and systems, to ensure maximum production quantity and quality, while supporting the policies, goals and objectives of the company.  The Maintenance Supervisor will directly oversee the 2nd Shift Maintenance and Facilities staff at the Florence, NJ location.  The Maintenance Supervisor will follow corporate policies with regards to all plant maintenance activities including storeroom operations and parts procurement, facility / maintenance and fabrication.   


What you will Do:

  • Requires advanced technical and working knowledge of computerized maintenance programs.

  • Must be knowledgeable of preventative maintenance techniques and have the ability to develop preventive maintenance techniques and have the ability to develop preventative maintenance programs from vendor manuals.

  • Must have excellent verbal and communication skills.

  • Must be familiar with food processing and packaging equipment and parts in general sense.

  • Must be able to interface with different levels of management and other departments to plan and schedule work (i.e. vendors, purchasing, production, and upper management to present reports).

  • Ability to plan ahead and take initiative in resolving problems.

  • Working knowledge of operating budgets and knowledge in analyzing and forecasting variances.

  • Working knowledge of personal computer spread sheet software programs.

  • Working knowledge of OSHA, FDA, and GMP requirements as they pertain to maintenance activities at a food processing facility.

  • Moderate physical effort required, entailing the use of ladders and catwalks to reach production equipment and develop meaningful scopes of work.

  • Must be proficient in electrical systems

  • Other responsibilities as requested by management


What you will Need:


  • Ensures that scheduled work orders specify applicable safety procedures and list Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) requirements for performing job.

  • Responsible for scheduling, on a daily basis, five minute Safety talks.

  • Responsible for generating on a monthly basis.  All maintenance shop equipment inspections for compliance with safety requirements.

  • Promptly reports all unsafe plant conditions and takes corrective action.

  • Manpower Utilization:

  • Ensures that daily work schedules maximize the mechanic utilization, evaluates paperwork turned in and provides timely and meaningful feedback to each shift supervisor on work completed or pending.

  • Generates Manpower utilization reports to demonstrate mechanic effectiveness.

  • Prepares daily work schedules and suggest work priorities based on customer requests.

  • Communicates effectively with all Maintenance Shift Supervisors and Operations Management informed on the progress of repairs. 

  • Computerized Maintenance System

  • Maintains the DPSI software and implements program enhancements as they become available.

  • Reviews work orders for accuracy and completes equipment codes.

  • Prioritizes work orders according to requester requirements.

  • Develops a weekly maintenance work schedule, putting together the weekly and week-end maintenance work lists and communicates them to Maintenance Supervision.

  • Preventive Maintenance

  • Updates equipment routine work orders, reviews equipment manuals and enters preventive maintenance programs in the computerized maintenance system to ensure that equipment performance and reliability remains at high levels.

  • Responsible for Job Scoping activities by going to job site, estimating hours and manpower requirements and developing part requirements.

  • Plans all work orders generated by preventive maintenance inspections.

  • Develops Equipment maintenance history downtime reports using the computerized maintenance system.

  • Identifies critical parts required to maintain equipment, obtains minimum on hand requirements by talking to equipment experts and supervisors and ensures through the storeroom buyer that parts are available to minimize out-of-service time.

  • Audits existing preventive maintenance programs on an on-going basis and recommends to the Maintenance manager changes to improve reliability and reduce maintenance costs.

  • Ensures that proper sanitation is scheduled after equipment maintenance.

  • Generates work orders for maintenance shop clean up to ensure that tools and equipment are stored properly.

  • Ensures that chemicals required to complete a job are listed in our MSDS file and the work order issued informs mechanics of any precautions that need to be taken. 


  • Identifies training required to perform assigned jobs effectively and makes recommendations to the Maintenance Supervisor and Manager.

  • Conducts training pertaining to the use of computerized maintenance program and the generation of work orders.

  • Cost Containment

  • Generates and distributes manpower utilization reports to be used for enhancing mechanic productivity and reduce overtime requirements.


Employee Relations

  • Promotes and maintains positive relationships between intermediate levels of management and maintenance associates.

  • Informs Maintenance supervisors of problems associated with equipment maintenance and parts availability.

  • Working Conditions

  • Typical maintenance working conditions.  Will frequently enter various refrigerated areas of the plant to perform maintenance activities.  Frequently stay in the refrigerated areas may be for extended periods of time.

  • Responsible for following food safety and food quality programs.

  • WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the associate regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to temperatures between 30-40 degrees. The associate is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
