Position Summary:

Under limited direction of the Plant Director, the Engineering Manager is responsible for optimizing plant energy consumption (refrigeration, electricity and water) , capital improvement processes and projects for the Irwindale facility.  This includes standardizing energy operations and vendor contracts, negotiating and approving statements of work, determining renovation and refurbishment necessities, overseeing the completion and quality of capital improvement projects, ensuring safety-related regulatory compliance, and identifies new manufacturing equipment and technologies to help automate, improve and increase manufacturing capabilities.  Responsible for overall KPI’s around, water & energy consumption, Process Safety Management and the Capex Budget 

 

What you will Do:

  • Creates maintenance strategies to increase  refrigeration equipment reliability and identifies areas requiring improvements and drives solutions to completion.   

  • Oversees the development and initiation of programs for future production equipment and facility upgrades, including identification and corrective action required to improve existing equipment and processes

  • Provides technical support and expertise for Manufacturing and Validation as required for delivery and product volume, process/validation excursions, process improvements, and product development.

  • Provides technical direction for the development, design and systems integration across the plants from definition phase to implementation.  

  • Applies significant industry knowledge and expertise to develop and improve equipment, processes and projects.

  • Creates and executes development plans across multiple projects and revise as appropriate to meet changing needs.

  • Actively communicates with Plant Directors and Senior Leadership teams at both facilities on status of project efforts and serves as liaison as needed between various business units internally, externally and with vendors.

  • Responsible for management and oversight of all capital project initiatives, schedules and budgets at both locations.

  • Participate in the annual capital budget process for improvement, equipment modification and expansion of the facilities to meet sales demand; regularly achieve annual budget and financial targets.

  • Ensure all national tools and processes for managing labor efficiency are fully implemented across all shifts.

  • Responsible for short and long term strategic planning and execution of sustainable activities to achieve departmental and organizational goals.

  • Identifies and develops the organizational capabilities of the Engineering  associates and cultivates a high performing team


 

What you will Need:

  • BA/BS Degree in Engineering or Business Administration preferred; 10+ years of experience in facilities and maintenance management required.

  • Expertise in managing a multi-craft refrigeration department required, preferably in a food manufacturing environment.

  • Expertise in preventive maintenance program development and implementation, maintenance work prioritization and scheduling required.

  • Advanced knowledge of operating budgets, capital project budgets and knowledge in analyzing and forecasting variances.

  • Process Safety Management Certification (preferred) 

  • Strong Refrigeration Knowledge

  • Cogeneration Knowledge or Experience

  • In-depth knowledge of all OSHA, Safety, FDA, Food Quality and GMP requirements as they pertain to maintenance and facilities activities as a consumer goods processing facility required.

  • Advanced knowledge of Continuous Improvement initiatives such as Lean and TMP.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; excellent project management skills.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, ability to climb stairs numerous times a day.

  • Ability to work prolonged hours in a wet, refrigerated environment.

  • Flexibility in schedule to meet the demands of a fast-paced, 24 hour plant environment

  • Must be able to multi-task while sustaining individual goals

  • Must have strong accountability and follow-through skills

  • Must be able to interact and collaborate with peers and participate in the development and cohesiveness of the Business Unit Leader Team.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the associate regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to temperatures between 30-40 degrees. The associate is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
